About Therapy
Therapy is a safe non-judgemental place to explore your challenges and achievements. This is supported by the commitment of both you and me and contained by the boundaries, continuity and consistency of sessions.
People attend therapy for many different reasons: from anxiety, depression and trauma to difficulties in making decisions, grieving the loss of a loved one and coping with health issues. Often we can find solace in the friends, family and relationships around us. There are times, however, when somebody independent of the situation is also helpful. Therapy will create a safe place to hold you in an exploration of what has brought you to therapy and suggest possible appropriate alternatives to explore.
I understand that the initial contact for therapy can feel difficult; therefore, invite you initially to come in for an assessment session. This is a chance for you to share what brings you to therapy, but also to ask any questions about therapy and/or how I work. Questions are not limited to the first session as I believe therapy is a working alliance between you and me, therefore, encourage you to ask.
My approach is to work with you and call upon skills and knowledge from many different theories and experiences to meet the needs of you individually. You are the expert on your life, your experiences and your feelings. I appreciate the importance of understanding the underlying processes and will encourage you to identify some, while I will bring others into your awareness. By doing so we can explore the choices and what's right for you.
It is important to be aware that areas such as trauma can only be explored when it is safe to do so and so a longer period of therapy is required.
